The primary goal of landscape engineering is to safeguard ecological functions, protect species and habitats, and promote the sustainable development of nature and landscapes in accordance with the Federal Nature Conservation Act (BNatSchG). As a subfield of environmental engineering, it plays a key role in environmental reports, FFH impact assessments, and landscape conservation plans.
